Arrival:

Come to Didcot Station forecourt.
We will meet your group and escort you during your visit to the Railway Centre.

Introduction:

Welcome, safety talk, toilet visit 20 minutes

Module options for a 4 hour visit

Section A - select 1 x 40 minutes 40 minutes
Section B - select 2 x 20 minute options40 minutes
Lunch (and a shop visit, if required)40 minutes
Section C - select 3/4 options 80 minutes
Plenary session20 minutes

A.Talk/workshops in Learning Centre

Select 1 x 40 min. module.

1. Didcot and the coming of the railways (or other local town). Reception – KS1, KS2
2. Travel & Transport with ‘hands on’ models of engines and bridges. Reception
3. Travel & Transportation, history including Brunel & Stephenson. KS1 – KS2
4. The Victorians, social & economic impact of the coming of the railways. KS1 – KS2
5. The Victorians & their children – life and times. Reception – KS1, KS2
6. Life during WW II – presentations with an air-raid shelter experience. KS1 – KS2

B. Hands-on sessions in the Science, Learning and Railways exhibition

Select 2 x 20 minute modules.

7. ‘Hands on’ models of engines and bridges to build (and demolish). Reception
8. Science and Engineering centre with interactive consoles. Reception – KS1, KS2
9. Coal, water and steam at the coal stage and engine shed. KS1 – KS2
