Living Museum of the Great Western Railway

No 1289 - Collett 'Excursion' Third

One of the most popular vehicles in the Society's collection. It retains its original interior of light birch panelling, inlaid with mahogany in a simple Art Deco style. The interior design uses art deco right angles wherever possible, such as the surround to the GWR glass panels, the opening in the partition, the seat ends, the luggage rack supports, and the lamp shades. Open plan with a table to each seat, this vehicle has been re-upholstered using a replica 1937 pattern and sees regular service on open days. This was not designed as a luxury vehicle, but rather the opposite, one built primarily for excursion use.

The coach is currently undergoing a major interior refit.
