No 1357 - Dean 8 Compartment Third Clerestory

Dean 8 Compartment Third Clerestory. Built 1903, Diagram C22, Lot 1038.

An 8 compartment 3rd class coach almost identical to 1941 with the exception of being built without the lower foot boards as is so common with the Victorian coach style.

No. 1357 was built in 1903 and received incandescent gas lighting in May 1919. It was painted brown at Newton Abbot in 1935 and condemned in December 1937, becoming Engineering Department coach 14571.  It was acquired for preservation in 1968.

This vehicle is stored in the depths of the carriage shed awaiting its turn for restoration. It is possible that 1357 will be the next coach funded by the Victorian Carriages Fund, once 290 and 975 are complete.
