No 2796 - Collett 'Siphon G'

2796 Siphon G is a “brown vehicle” listed in the coaching stock list, not as a wagon.  It could run at express train speed on a passenger train or special milk train. The louvres on the side of the vehicle allowed a flow of air to keep the milk cool.  In later years these vehicles were used for newspaper traffic and were a common sight at Didcot.

2796 went to the “Rail 150” Cavalcade at Shildon in 1975 with GWR No 7808 Cookham Manor.  2796 is now used by Carriage & Wagon Department as an upholstery store and has been painted in 1930s “GWR Roundel” livery.
