Non-Operational Locomotives Group

Help Our Giants Sleep!

Didcot’s large collection of non-operational locomotives need your help!

They need your assistance to maintain their good looks. You can contribute towards the upkeep of these fantastic steam engines, from wee ‘Bonnie Prince Charlie’ to the magnificent mainline locos such as 5051 ‘Drysllwyn Castle’.

The Non-Operational Locomotives Group meet regularly, usually the first Saturday and third Thursday of a month, but we can also be on site on other days and evenings, so times may be available to suit you better. There is no minimum attendance, just spare the time when you can.

There are also many jobs which can be done away from Didcot such as: maintaining accounts, communications, cleaning small parts, small repairs, painting etc. No previous experience is required!

We are looking for people who:

  • care about preserving the nation’s heritage
  • can take on unusual tasks
  • like to feel fulfilled with what they do
  • love trying new things
  • want to feel part of a team
  • want to have fun
  • mix with the public
  • love to get their hands (and other bits) dirty

We can offer you:

  • full access to our amazing engines
  • tools for the jobs
  • instructions where necessary
  • tea and/or coffee endlessly
  • a safety conscious environment
  • places where the public only dream of going
  • a chance to have your work appreciated
  • no money

Fancy a turn for the dirty ? E-Mail: Non-Operational Locomotives Group or have look at our Facebook page
