VACANCY - Catering & Visitor Experience Trainee

Didcot Railway Centre is one of the area’s leading tourist attractions and an Arts Council England Accredited Museum which cares for and operates an unparalleled collection of locomotives, carriages, wagons, buildings and other artefacts to provide visitors with enjoyable and informative experiences.

The 21-acre site also houses visitor amenities including refreshment rooms, gift shop, exhibitions & displays and is the venue for a varied series of special events.

We are now seeking a Trainee with a passion for delivering outstanding service to join our energetic and hard-working Catering and Visitor Experience Team.

This role will see you assisting with food preparation and service in our Refreshment Rooms and provide opportunities for you to develop your catering, hospitality and customer-service skills alongside experienced members of staff. Time away from work for part-time study or specific courses will be a key ingredient and you’ll also have the chance to widen your experience by assisting with other front of house duties for open days and special events.

The successful candidate will possess a friendly welcoming manner, an outgoing personality, enthusiasm and the confidence to talk to customers and will be able to demonstrate customer-facing experience, an eye for detail and a passion to learn new practical skills. Some experience in a similar role would be an advantage.

It is anticipated that working hours will vary between 20 – 40 hours per week due to the seasonal nature of the business but an annualised hours contract will be offered for the right candidate and progression to a permanent role is a strong possibility. The starting rate of pay will be dependant on current skills and experience.

The Centre is open most weekends and special events are usually on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays so a willingness to work at these times and the ability to work on a flexible basis are essential.

If you would like to be considered for this position, please apply by e-mail enclosing your CV and a covering letter.  Applications should be sent to Graham.Hukins@DidcotRailwayCentre.org.uk.

Applications must be received by 5.00pm on Monday 18 January 2021.
