Railway Experience Day

A chance of a lifetime to realise a childhood ambition and drive a steam engine. Ideal for a birthday treat, a special anniversary, corporate hospitality or pure self indulgence.

Relive the golden age of the Great Western Railway at Didcot Railway Centre where the original GWR engine shed is home to a fine collection of lovingly restored locomotives, looked after by the members of the Great Western Society.

The Day consists of:

  • Introduction and safety talk
  • Guided tour of the Centre, including the workshops and signalboxes, with an experienced guide
  • 2.5 hours with the steam train, driving and firing the locomotive and being guard of the train
  • Two course lunch in the restaurant
  • Gift pack of information about Didcot Railway Centre and a year's membership of the Great Western Society
  • Group Photograph of your visit

The day commences at 8am with coffee and breakfast rolls and concludes at 4pm with the presentation of a Certificate of your day's experience.
