Living Museum of the Great Western Railway

Dave

Dave - Electrical Department

My name is Dave and I first applied to be a volunteer five years ago.

After my interview l was contacted by Mick of the site electrical department to join them.

I had spent forty three years in the electrical industry and my first volunteer role was working with the Electrical Team, John, Martin and Mick on the electrical work for the Museum Annex.

I could still put my electrical skills to good use and as the new Signalling Centre building was in construction l moved onto this new project.

The picture shows me at the main distribution board in the simulator room.

The work is always interesting and my reason to volunteer.

There are always times when I can help on open days and events from Thomas to galas and Christmas.

The first step to becoming a volunteer is to join the Great Western Society - the Charity that runs Didcot Railway Centre.

We need volunteers to carry out all types of tasks - see the opportunities across our departments here.
