Steam & Heritage Diesel Weekend

Sat 25 & Sun 26 Sept | Unlimited rides with 1 steam loco and 4 diesels in action

Enjoy all the attractions of our Autumn Steam Days and, in addition, see four diesels in action working passenger and goods trains.

The Centre's fleet of diesels will take centre-stage providing an unusual opportunity to ride behind 08604 "Phantom", normally confined to shunting duties, taking a turn on passenger workings and featuring Hunslet DL26, built in 1968 and similar in appearance to a BR Class 05, in charge of a demonstration goods train. The 0-6-0DM is a regular performer as yard pilot when the Centre is closed but is rarely seen in action on open days.

81 Year old Railcar No. 22 is also scheduled to be in action for the event giving visitors a unique opportunity to ride in this pioneering vehicle and the line up will be completed by Class 14 D9516 which was built at the famous Swindon Locomotive Works and saw less than 4 years' service with British Railways before being sold for industrial use.
