John O'Hagan

John has been volunteering at Didcot since 1969, initially in loco restoration and maintenance. He took over responsibility for the membership system in the early 1980s before joining the Council (now the Board) of the GWS in 1989. He has served as assistant Secretary, Secretary and Deputy Chair.

As a physicist, his career was in public health, with roles in research, advice and consultancy. He has a PhD in safety risk assessment and has been involved with the development of national and international legislation. Although mainly retired, he continues his role as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Loughborough University, chairs a lighting research charity and leads on the development of international laser and optical radiation safety standards.
